The Anamala Story

Years of weaving heritage in Kuthampully

Our Heritage

The Anamala Story

Anamala Handlooms was born within the embrace of Anamala Homestays — a working homestead nestled in the handloom heartland of Kuthampully, Thrissur district.

Here, weaving is not a workshop activity — it is a way of living. Our artisan families have inherited the craft through generations, practicing the Devanga weaver tradition that gave Kuthampully its authentic handloom identity.

Every saree that leaves our looms carries a thread of this story — the sounds of the pit loom, the scent of sizing thread, and the pride of a craft kept alive.

Our Story
Craftsmanship

Crafted the
Handloom Way

In an age of machines and mass production, we remain committed to the pit loom. Every saree is born through the rhythm of a weaver's hands — each pass of the shuttle a deliberate act of creation. This is not slow manufacturing; it is a living craft.

01

Yarn Preparation

Raw cotton and silk threads are carefully sourced and wound on bobbins by hand, tested for evenness before the loom ever touches them.

02

Warping the Loom

Warp threads are strung lengthwise across the traditional pit loom — a meticulous process that can take an entire day for a single saree.

03

Weaving by Hand

The weaver sits within the pit, working the shuttle back and forth, interlacing weft threads one pass at a time. A fine silk saree takes 3-5 days to complete.

04

Zari & Motifs

Gold and silver zari threads are woven into borders and pallu using supplementary weft technique — no embroidery, no printing, only true interlacing.
